Rye Town Council is involved closely with the Rye Merchant Seamen’s Fund.
This charity (no. 236380) was established in 1924 for ‘the relief and support of maimed and disabled seamen connected with the town and port of Rye and the widows and children of such seamen as shall be slain or drowned in the merchant service.’
Following advice from the Charity Commission, the trustees will consider additionally assisting:
- (a) those people working on the seas (including fishermen and lifeboatmen) who live or work in the town or port of Rye, who are injured or disabled
- (b) injured or disabled seamen who were not injured or disabled during the course of their work.
