Rye Housing Needs Survey

We need your help!

We all know that there is a shortage of affordable accommodation in Rye – either for purchase or for rent. Both East Sussex County Council (the freeholder) and The Rye Partnership (the leaseholder) have agreed in principle to make the former Tilling Green School playing field available should a viable social housing scheme come forward.

To be able to proceed we need to know not only the extent of the demand but also the type of accommodation that is required. One of the first steps is to evidence need.

Rye Town Council have commissioned the housing enabling team of the charity Action in Rural Sussex to carry out a housing needs survey. During the week commencing 27 March 2023, every household in Rye will be sent a questionnaire to complete and return – or it may be completed on line. Additional paper copies may be requested.

Please share this post, or send the survey link, to anyone you know who may fall into one of the categories above. We would like to reach as many people as possible who may have been forced to move away due to a lack of affordable housing in Rye.

We especially need the survey to be completed by households or individuals who need affordable housing now – as well as in the future.

This could include:
• A young person who may need to set up a home of their own.
• Older people who need to downsize to more suitable accommodation.
• A household living in expensive private rented housing.
• An individual or family with links to the Parish who has moved away.

This is our chance to help to provide more affordable accommodation in the town and to influence the type provided!

The information collected will be analysed independently by Action in Rural Sussex and no personal details will be shared with others – including the Town Council.
