The 73rd National Town Criers’ Championship takes place on Saturday 3rd October 2026.
Join Rye’s own Town Criers, as they host Criers from across the country taking part in this spectacular event, being held in the Gun Gardens in Rye.
Judging will be based on volume, diction, clarity and inflection. The event begins at 11am with a procession from the Town Hall to the Gun Gardens, followed by an introductory welcome speech from the Rye Town Crier, Paul Goring. Round one will follow this, taking place from 11.30am – 1pm, hearing a ‘home cry’ from each participant. The competition continues in the afternoon, from 2pm – 3.30pm, with a public ‘Have-A-Go’ competition, followed by Round 2, featuring a a themed cry. The results will be announced after round 2.
